This interesting set of 4 trays was made by Alfred E. Knobler & Company.  Made in Japan from paper mache, these snack trays were painted with an Egyptian hieroglyphic design.  The backside of each tray is labeled "Alcohol Proof" by the maker, as traditional Japanese shellac would soften if you spilled an alcoholic beverage. Measures  9.5" x 5.75".
